The VCC construced the track about 4 or 5 years ago in conjuction with Parks Victoria. The SES wanted to carve a 4wd track to the base of the rock. They claimed it was for public safety but others thought it was so they didn't have to carry there gear in for training! The walking track was a compromise and was constructed for emergency access and also for general rock climber access. Unfortunately I know of at least one incident where the track was used to access an accident but fortunately the climber has since recovered.

Not hard to carry a BBQ in there now. Weather can be a bit unreliable at Camels in April although the last few years has been pretty good. Maybe a back up plan like Black Hill (or the Mt Macedon Pub) would be worth considering if the weather craps out. Could just leave a sign on the notice board if it is relocated.
