Hiya,
there is a free technical mountaineering course on Mt Ruapehu in NZ in June. This is the third year it has run and we've had some Aussies over before, so I thought I'd try to promote it a bit more to our choice neighbours this year. If you are a bigwig in a club, please feel free to let your members know.
Mt Ruapehu is the big thing that goes boom in the central North Island. It is also the best mountaineering training ground imaginable, and spending a week climbing there will do wonders for your mountaineering.
The course runs on 20-21 June. The bugger in terms of coming from Aus is that there is a chance the trip will be postponed to the following weekend owing to poor weather. So, if you have the time, why not come over and spend 9 days or so on the mountain (it's one of those mountains you could spend 2 years on and still not do everything)?
The trips are for climbers already experienced in using crampons and ice axes and who can look after themselves. In all seriousness, you are likely to learn more in two days than you will on a 10-day course costing thousands of dollars.
You have to organise your own transport/accommodation/gear/food. We'll set up a message board regarding transport.

Cheers, Glenn
