What about over seas climber? How the hell would they know what carabiners to use?

The fact is that most non-locking gates on the market now days can come off a carrot when used with a plate. Even some of the newer screwgates can come off. And since carabiners are only going to become skinnier and skinnier this issue is not going to go away (just get worse).

Then there is the issue of bolt plates peeling off a bolt. This happens when the rope drag inverts the bolt plate on the bolt and then the climber falls on it. The force of the fall simply peels the plate open (regardless of what biner you are using).
