what i meant is everyone is part of the system so no one can pretend that its someone elses fault. the focus should be making the system work nicely not trying to pretend you're not a part of it.

I actually think the people that take things to extremes can be counter-productive. there's only so much you can reduce your individual impact, its far more important to have moderation spread to as many people as possible than to try and reduce your own influence from 0.1 person-loads to 0.08. enviro extremists make it unattractive for a lot of people to take steps because they don't want to be seen as a greenie/hippy etc because there's so much else that is attached to that image. if that image wasn't there it would be a lot more appealing for your average joe to embrace the practical side of it.
