Sorry to spoil the party but by the time you've bought return flights, your 6K will last less than 3 months in Europe and unless you base yourself around a major climbing centre you'll be doing heaps of travelling in between areas.
SE Asia is a good cheap option for sure, hot as buggery at any time of the year (wet season (Thailand) is best IMHO) but hanging onto sweaty upside-down things makes you stronger.
NZ is also a good cheap option for this summer, but yeah Canada is sweet for sure, basing yourself around Banff / Jasper or Vancouver you can't go wrong, plus summer is their busy season so you'll find work easily. There is some great climbing out east around Halifax but work is very hard to come by out there.
The UK is also pretty popular, easy and fun if you're looking at working, basing yourself up in Scotland is the go I reckon, especially if you enjoy hill walking and mountain biking, pretty much everyone there climbs or rides, you'll meet lots of like minded ppl and you'll get really good at trad climbing and longer mountain routes too, plus in winter it has awesome mountaineering / ice (turf!) routes too. The other benefit is that if you're working over there you can easily check out the rest of Europe, flights are so cheap it's not funny and Spain is only 6 hrs away from Glasgow Prestwick Airport...sweet!
Have fun! |
