Apart from Tassie, where are some good places to climb in the Eastern States around Christmas/New Years? Is Buffalo any good at that time of year?

Point perpendicular - just have to put up with a lot of tourists camping.

Some people reckon buffalo is indeed the way to go, but in 2006 i went there from 15-20th January and it was 35+degrees everyday and had about 2.5 trillion flies bothering me. having said that lake catani is nice and cooling, and it may have been a bad year (it was around the time most of the gramps burnt down - possibly a particularly hotter, drier summer than usual)
otherwise, people swear by arapiles gullies and the victoria ranges in the gramps....

What about the Wolgan Benno? Old Baldy is south facing and there's plenty of rock there.

Yeah I'd thought about the Wolgan, but I'm not sure how much Jo would enjoy getting dragged up Old Baldy. Whilst we're on the subject of visiting the Wolgan, you keen for the Labour Day long weekend?

Buffalo is good all the time, ... but we mortals have to fit in with nature!
It was the same story back in 2003, when for a week or so it never got below 38 degrees up there even at night!
Some good advice on locations to go in posts above.
Some others to consider would be, Bungonia (can actually be cool there in summer sometimes, and if not you can go caving instead!), Wilsons Prom, & maybe some other places on the coast, but the coolest spot of all would be the party scene in the Blueys at that time of year!
Heh, heh , heh.

RE Old Baldy, you can hit all the routes on the lower cliff without committing too heavily.
Not sure what I'm doing for the LWE yet. Was vaguely considering Point Perp, need to see the ocean again. But I'll be hunting the low grades pretty heavily in either case. Climbed last night for the first time since April and surprisingly I haven't got stronger since then, might have even lost a bit of strength...

You might have to start drinking long necks instead of stubbies to build up that strength again...Point Perp's certainly got a few classics in the easy grades but if you reconsider let me know.
Cheers,
Benno
