Working for the chain stores will always bring layers of puppetry into your working life.. look for an independant retailer, with interesting gear, objective sales pitches and fun people. The better the gear you have in your store, the better the class of customer that will come in. This in turn leads to more interesting conversations with custmers and makes the day infinitely more enjoyable.
Think of it this way.. would you prefer talking to people going into obscure patagonian mountains or your average joe wanting to buy a jacket that looks outdoorsey to wear around the street......
The others def have it right though, working in the outdoor industry gives you access to good gear and ptrs for your passion!
