yes a few were maybe out of proportion but overall there is reason to be concerned about their practises.

1. decompression- major incident
2. emergency landing from undercarriage door not closing- irregular
3. hydraulic fluid leak- reason for concern, depending on why
4. toilets not emptied- whatever
5. engine loss of power during landing- reason for concern, depending on why
6. 747 grounded for maintenance to jack screw- whatever, it was identified on the ground

in addition their fleet of 737-400s were grounded recently by CASA because Qantas failed to perform repairs on an identified problem. the directive had been around since 2003 and CASA stepped in because they hadn't done the necessary repairs. http://www.news.com.au/mercury/story/0,22884,24183260-421,00.html
