qantas deserves every criticism they've had in the media and more. much more. the 300 people on the 747 that sufferred decompression on its way from manila are incredibly lucky to be alive, if anything the media portreyed it as "oh boeing designs its planes to handle that", which is far from the truth. they might try to, but its very very bad news and shouldn't happen.

delays for repairs that need to get done on the ground are one thing, but any incident that happens in the air deserves all the media scrutiny possible. five incidents in the space of a few months (i'm not sure how many were in flight) seems a pretty obvious sign of slack maintenance. poor maintenance regimes risk a lot of lives and there should be zero tolerance for it.
