The CanoScan will do slides, negatives and prints. I think I paid a bit over $300 for mine about two years ago - you can probably get something better for the money now! It's obviously best at prints (because you're not dealing with a teeny tiny original), but it's also more than adequate for web images, and reasonable for doing small and medium small images (say up to a bit bigger than postcard size) from 35mm negs and slides. If you want to produce large images digitally from that sort of media it's time to head to a professional lab.

One benefit of doing this is the ease with which under or over exposure problems on old slides oe prints can be corrected, once you learn how to tweak things.
