Thanks to all so far for a good diverse range of ideas. Its good to get a perspective from fellow climbers. Looks like a majority of Melbourne climbers are city or west city based ? Its my first post on Chockstone, and I was pretty impressed with a job offer ! Great value. Something I might consider down the track.
From my research its pretty good that a family home (i.e. big enough for a woodie) can still be purchased for under 400k and only 30km direct line to Melbourne, (Fern Tree Gully) try that in Sydney !

Just finally, I understand the west is where its at, but nobody mentioned the Cathedral Range and other Eastern areas, is it worth considering living close to them for the odd random day here and there ?
