Great article in the Weekend Australian about an early all women expedition into the Himalayas. Three ‘housewives’ who traveled by Land Rover and foot into some very remote mountain areas in 1958. The main sponsor of the trip was a chocolate drink manufacturer but other sponsorship included 5000 cigarettes. Fantastic picture of one of the explorers crossing a rocky ridge in hobnails with an umbrella in one hand. There is a movie about their exploits called Himalayan Adventure by Martin Salter which is apparently available on the internet at www.ovaltine.co.uk though I haven’t seen it.
