If you look really closely at the shot (massive credit to Simon for the amazing shot - fantastic light) you can see a draw in Richards hand and there's a ring bolt about 2 1/2 body lengths above the last draw. So I'd think that he sat on the draw until the light was right (Cue Simon screaming NOW NOW NOW!!!!) - Richard unclips and jumps. So when I said a normal but long fall - I was implying the situation not the outcome. And yes I remember the Lucas shot too - I remember thinking "what the hell is he doing??"
