You guys are all just as bad as the herald scum and 60 Minutes. This is the sort of misconcieved
ideas and thinking that are
leading parkour through a media epidemic. As a member of the Australian Parkour Association and
long time
traceur I feel it my duty to nock these ill ideas out of your and future readers heads before you infect
others. Parkour is very
much a discipline about efficiency and training for the unknown. When we train we arnt 'doing' parkour,
we are training for it.
Parkour is not the name of 'the sport' it a discription of what we do in a situation were by no other
means could a regular person
escape or handle it. For example some gangstas want to roll you on southbank, we use the skills we
have learnt to whilst
training to initially AVOID a situation and if that fails we revert to physical skills such as vaults to get
away. But we also do
things like trick our persuer, for example running and letting people use there last wind to catch you,
then when they are biting
you ankles you use the energy you conserved whilst running slower to run your heart out and ditch
them.

You must understand that we do a HELL of allot of training and conditioning before attempting anything
radical. I my self have
been training for well over two years and have never attempted a jump or anything else over about
1.5m off the ground. For that
guy that had knee surgery: the pioneer of parkour as we know it, has never broken a bone from a
parkour related injury. Why?
because we do a everything possible to get our bodies to a complete state of readiness and peak
condition to avoid injuries
such as your own. For example our roll (WHICH IS NOT A GYMNAST ROLL) is designed to break a
fall and retain full
momentum, our knees and ankles take a tiny fraction of the fall impact, most of the impact is
discipated through muscle mass
and the roll its self.

People such as YOU, wallwombat that have the wrong idea and think all we do is run and jump, we try
to educate and inform
that parkour is a discipline and has a very philosophical side to it. Flips are NOT parkour. We dont
mind what you do, just dont
call it parkour. It is a huge worry to us When someone sees parkour and thinks of jumping of the
highest possible building, this
is why we run classes. To help people learn the basics of parkour movement, philosophy and to teach
them to train them selfs
in a safe, controlled AND INSURED environment.

Parkour is about efficiency. A to B in the most efficient way possible. You cant have a real
understanding about any of it until
you do it, which is why im going to recommend that any of you nay sayers come to one of our
classes. Im quite sure you would
all be very shocked and stunned just how physically and mentally demanding it really is. I find that alot
of the skill are
transferable from parkour to climbing and visa versa. The first class is FREE! and we meet at the arts
center wave sculpture on
sunday afternoons. Details Here: http://www.parkour.asn.au/melbourne-parkour-classes.php

If you have questions just ask me, try the apa's forum or come to a class. you wont be disapointed.
