I think that this problem is in large part a byproduct of everyone 'learning' to climb in gyms now. Gyms have positive holds on vertical or steeper walls. Eventually I suspect that areas with very different climbing styles (e.g. Booroomba granite) will have to change the traditional grades, or at least highlight the different style. There has been one death on a grade 14 crack at Booroomba...
