Feb 2008 marks the 20th anniversary of Malcolm Matheson's first ascent of the legendary Serpentine on Taipan Wall, surely one of the greatest routes in the universe. A celebration is definitely in order!! So the invite goes out to all interested persons that in late Feb (dates to be confirmed) we'll be gathering in Stapylton campground for "The festival of the Serp", a long weekend-style celebration of all things HB,Serpentine and Taipan. So start growing your mullets/ moustaches and cruise the second hand stores for a pair of old stubbies now!!
A freedom bus will be departing Sydney with room for plenty. The man himself HB has been re-familiarising himself with the route over winter in preparation so he'll look smooth when the camera's roll.
So if you've been saving it up for the onsight now's the time to step up. There's talk of gear-only ascents and bolt-only ascents of pitch 2...no tyre-kickers though, doggers to be promptly lowered to the deck!!
So if you've climbed Serpentine, dreamt of climbing it, or just want to watch history re-enacted and see HB climb it, then this weekend's for you!!
