About 18months ago the VCC committe debated this issue. At the time it was decided that the VCC would strongly recommend the use of helmets but not make them compulsory. From what I have heard it's a bit more clear cut now: no helmet = no insurance= no VCC.

I believe climbers who don't want to wear a helmet could still climb at the same cliff, camp at the same campground and mix with the same people. They just wouldn't be officially part of the VCC trip and they wouldn't be covered by the club insurance and their climbing partners probably wouldn't either.

As far as wearing a helmet for slide shows I think you should be right without one Neil since your presentations are usually excellent. Perhaps if you ever are light on for content you could consider wearing a helmet.
