Hey there,
I am a beginner boulderer and currently traveling in France. Can anyone recommend a place to stay (camping or hostel preferred) in Fontainebleau and a few tips on where to boulder. Haven't climbed much in 3 months so easiest problems would be good.

Any replies send to jimbob-2002@hotmail.com

Cheers
Jim

Maxdacat is on the money. UKClimbing Font FAQ

Campsite is good though pricey. But is within walking distance of the Trois Pignons which include areas such as Cul De Chien Gros Sablons and 95.2.

Most areas have easy circuits as well as hard and all are good!

just spent a few days there on oct. hire a bike in font that'll get you everywhere in the forest if you dont
have a car.

I did the same for the second half of my Font stay (went across to England for a couple of comps in the middle - campsite let me leave the tent up and store stuff I didn't need in the UK for free!), hiring a 10 speed Peugeot road bike from Milley.

Bas Cuvier was ~40 minutes and Elephant ~ 50 minute cruisy ride from the campsite. I was just travelling with a door mat I bought in town strapped to my daypack and not a bouldering mat, so that may add to the ride times if you do take a mat ;-) 99% of the landings were perfect and many of the problems not super steep so I didn't find a bouldering mat a requirement.

This was back in 97 when the free camping was still open so I was the only camper at the site and had to make my own way. Now the campsite is more popular with climbers you should be able to get rides anyway...
