Rang Blackheath NPWS (NSW) last week to ask about use of the Grose Valley with respect to the fires of last October/November. Fortress Creek canyon is the only canyon or off-track walking allowed. (Bit cool at the mo for that!)
I thought about the consequences, but asked anyway - what about rock-climbing access?
'Rock-climbing is banned and not allowed in any part of the Blue Mountains National Park', to which I stated to that dismissive response; Parks Service would be well aware of the countless thousands of bolts throughout the valley, and, if I may say so - they would also be aware of several rock-climbing guidebooks devoted to the area, and many well-known mountaineers cut their teeth in the Blue Mountains.
Silence. I asked of the organised bushwalking group that entered Blue Gum Forest for its 75th 'birthday' in early September, and was told that was a special occasion and access to the Grose Valley (as far east as Linden) is not likely until next year.
