Absolutely have had the same experience - to my eternal shame.

I grew up around the Baulkham Hills area.... (guess where this is going).

Armed with a rope and gear we went looking for climb-able cliffs in about '93 in the valley behind my old high school.
We scrambled up and down some fun little rock sections we explored through the 'Front Line' area on the way back to the car - and promptly forgot all about it as we were looking for cliffs to do roped climbing on.
Note: The terms "scrambling up and down rock sections" not "bouldered on problems" -as there is no way i'm trying to claim any firsts (local bong smoking kids of the 70's probably have the FA rights to the bits we did)...

I still shake my head now looking at the area with 'bouldering eyes' on.
