My trick with the sunscreen: plastic bag over the hand, pour sunscreen onto hand, apply to face, neck, etc. This way your hands remain free of oil.
Last summer I used a couple of different brands of 30+ SPF (or whatever the acronym is), and found a single application in the morning, prior to departing for a day trip, was enough. This gives you the opportunity to wash your hands with hot water and soap before leaving. Of course, the stuff is so white and thick you look like you've risen from the grave.
A shirt with a collar is handy to stop your over-the-shoulder slings coming into contact with a sun screened neck. |
