Tips for shooting climbing video 12-Jun-2007 At 10:53:59 AM Mike

If you're going to shoot from abseil on an overhung crag get a mate below to anchor the rope at the base as well, to stop you from spinning in the breeze. If you have a third rope you can anchor that elsewhere and create a triangle effect to really lock yourself steady. That way you can also control tension yourself. Steady is key for video. Shoot the action, not cause it.

Gri Gri and an ascender is a good combo for going up and down quickly. (though it can be tiring).

Find a leader that is patient enough to:
- wait while you ascend the photo rope ahead of them
- "go go go" when the light is good.
- Redo the crux so you can get it from another angle and/or close ups

Tie off your camera with a keeper cord.

Buy a big wall harness for extra padding, or invest in a belay seat - something I've been thinnking about - all that hanging in space waiting is not comfortable.
