Furthur to my cousins experience on the day; 28 degrees, gusting 30kmh winds, no way was this controlled, in fact it could well have resulted in far more extensive damage.
I agree with various comments re - the "no win" situation for the organisations involved, no burning means a bigger one later, any burn is risky, trees and animals are going to get hurt... But the days of setting fires and walking away, relying on a weather report to do your "controlling" for you must surely be numbered...
