First Lead? 25-May-2007 At 12:53:13 PM Organ Pipe

D - Major (9) in the Organ Pipes, then Panzer (12) on the right watchtower face the following day.

3 mates and I borrowed a rack from one of my mates employer (a school) and headed up to Araps for our first ever weekend. We hiked to the base of the Organ Pipes, put on our shoes and harnesses and looked at eachother expecting someone to tie in. We quickly discovered that none of us had ever lead before.

I drew the short straw because I'd had some limited experience placing natrual pro before as a second many years prior.

I almost blacked out in terror at the sight of the overhang at the end of the second pitch of D - Major.

Last weekend, I led that same pitch... in the rain... in hiking boots. It's funny how something that was so terrifying is now so appealing.
