I am known to use a ridiculious amounts of chalk indoors mostly because my hands sweat a lot more than other people but also because of habit and I do it when I'm resting and nervous. "excessive perspiration" is actually called 'hyperhydrosis' and I have this on my hands and feet. It uusually starts when someone mentions it or i'm nervous or sitting still in one place for a long time.

Although I use chalk heaps indoors I was condemnd for using it outdoors as a conseuqence of climbing with Sabu and Steph...I have found that I don't actually need it outdoors and have only used it on rare occassions. As rock tends to be more more textured than indoor holds chalk is not really needed on most climbs however there are some that don't, mostly smaller holds and slopers.
This does not mean people should just pile on the loose chalk... it ruins the climb for some when the next move is mapped out as a result of chalk. chalk doen't matter indoors but I think on outdoor routes, the overuse of chalk is not needed.
