This is a key point Macca.

Falling under the umbrella (at the whim of the planning minister) of the increasingly abused and notorious Part 3A of The NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, the usual rules of Environmental Impact Assessment do not apply - which is kind of odd, considering that there is potentially far more to lose in such cases of "major" or "state significant" developments.

They can basically get any kind of turkey in there to do some form of "environmental assessment" meeting any old standards and the planning minister will push it through.

In any case, with bucketloads of cash behind them, they might build the thing to impressive environmental standards. What better way to perpetuate the fantasy that the development can be viewed in isolation from its external context.
