CRUX Issue #3 - Submissions closed & teaser 3-Apr-2007 At 5:15:34 PM cruxmag

Issue #3 should be available in all good outdoor stores across Australia from today (or tommorow if Australia Post is slack)

I'd like to thank the 50+ contributors to this issue. Their writing and photography is a gift to Oz climbing. I'd really like to thank Simon Carter, Adam Bramwell and Josh Caple for their tireless work creating this special edition. Simon Murry did a kick arse job in the design department. Thanks to Anita and Kathy for their helping packing and distributing the thousands of mags to all the obscure places around Oz. There are many others who have helped make this happen.

We'll be hosting a small CRUX stall at the Australian Climbing Festival. We'll be not only be selling mags and posters, but also hosting two competitions. A Brains or a Brawn comp. You either take the Big Quiz (30 obscure climbing related trivia questions) or try your arms on the chin-up bar. You can win free mags, discounted mags, 8a.nu yearbooks - and the Grand Champion on the chin-up bar walks away with more than $400 worth of RISE climbing holds.

If you've been interested in submitting content to CRUX, then the festivel is a perfect opportunity to do so! Come over and have a chat...

You’ll find this latest issue bursting with Bluies/Blueys/Bluieies content, a perfect starter to a fabulous Australian Climbing Festival. Not only is it full of interviews, photos and tall tales, it also contains technical advice from experts in their fields such as Garth Millar and Glenn Tempest.

We have continued our mission statement of publishing new talent, both visually and in the written word. Our aim is to continue sourcing more material from people and places who haven’t been in print before. You’ll find many of these in this issue.

Now that we've put a few issues out we're happy to move past the sweet honeymoon period and receive any constructive criticism you have on what you believe could improve the magazine. We want to continue working closely with our large contributor pool to shape the direction of future issues.

Our next issue will celebrate the rough tough world of the degenerate road warrior, frugally crossing the world on just the smell of a packet of instant noodles. We want to hear your stories about surviving whilst travelling and climbing in Australia, or anywhere else around the world! If you have photos of your experience (the more filth the better) then please send them to us. We are especially after articles about crags that are off the beaten track, ones that require several days journey from the Big Smoke. CRUX is not just about climbing, but about climbers. If you think you might have something of interest to climbers then please contact us. (Beer review? Caving article? Road Tripping Eating Guide?)

THE DEADLINE FOR ISSUE #4 SUBMISSIONS IS JULY 15

We have unfortunately had to raise our cover price for this and future issues. Our original aim was to cover the production costs with advertising dollars; but even this has proved to be incredibly difficult. Many players of the climbing industry have helped significantly to keep us afloat with their generous advertising support but it is not quite enough to keep us in print. A price increase means we survive without relying wholly on advertising. The reader might pay a higher price, but they continue to read 100+ pages of content with minimal advertising interruptions. However, we still need advertising support!

So, thanks again guys!

Neil Monteith
