The style in which you climbed the route is as you described. Your ethic is to be honest about how you climbed the route and not to misrepresent it. Do what you do and be honest about it, and there's no harm done. There are more than a few 'cutting edge' routes at Arapiles and other places that were ascended in a style not altogether removed from what you have described. The difference being that the climber has sold that as a 'clean first ascent'. Same style, different ethics. I can't help but think that given all the ills in the world today that this sort of debate is just a little self-indulgent. This is all really just a piddly storm in an insignificant teacup.
