I once watched a British climber leading Glory Rhodent at Araps. A short way up the climb he put his hand into a deep dark pocket and then quickly withdrew it say "Oh god. There's something alive in there." To my astonishment he then put his hand back in and again quickly withdrew it saying "Yes. Theres definately something alive in there." I was absolutely amazed to see him plunge his hand back in a third time after which he anoounced "It's okay. It seems to have gone now." It brought to mind a scene from one of the Star Wars movies where Luke Skywalker is putting his hand into a rock with something unfriendly living in it. Obviously the Brittish guy hadn't heard any of the stories about our nasties.
