Probably something alpine hardmen have known for years.
Researchers have debunked the theory that Mallory was ill equipped for his assult on Everest. ( I note the small detail however that there is no mention of the summit).
Anyway what it boils down to is that if you are a gear freak or like buying overpriced clothes at outdoor stores (to be cool) you are wasting your money. Better off you buy an old suit from St Vinnies and don't forget to tuck your socks into your pants before you leave home. Chicks will dig this dashing look, so be warned.

"The results of a unique experiment on Mount Everest confirm that the clothing of the 1924 climbers George Mallory and Sandy Irvine would not have prevented them from reaching the summit, as many had believed.

Following the discovery of Mallory's body on the north face of Everest in 1999, a team of forensic textile experts from Lancaster, Leeds, Southampton and Derby universities embarked on an experiment to recreate the outfit from samples of Mallory's clothing which had been preserved in ice."
