BRAT -Your amazing Aussie singer Paul Kelly has a tune " From Little Things, Big Things Grow".
Little gestures can have big results. A younger brother of mine died in my arms from testicular cancer which migrated to his lungs and I lost my first son a week before he was due to be born - so I understand something of the precious nature of life. And I also understand the power of kindness.

There are three boxes being sent with some surprises for the little tyke - I hope they suffer a better fate in the Sydney postal warehouse then an earlier shipment a few years back. The rats attacked it and decimated it - this in a country with 8 of the 10 most deadly snakes on the planet and of course those southern Queen'sland matildas - an application of either of those and the rats would not have known what hit them!!!
So look for the boxes in a week or so.

I also got a bit creative ( I do have that streak in me) and have Steve Nash, Canada's two-time NBA basketfall MVP sending him something a bit later in August. He may not have a good awareness of basketball at such a young age but you can explain to him that Canadians are up for the game - any game -and Steve almost single handedly destroyed the Aussie side at the Sydney Olympics!!! He played rugby earlier in his academic career as well. Add him to our national rugby squad and the Aussies could be getting it both barrels - the Canucks and the All Blacks!! The Wallabies might think there could be relief with Four Nations rather than Three but we have news for them!!

I never had much bb talent myself - rather gravitated to ice hockey actually but I did have one brief shining moment - in my Gr. 12 year we had a five person intermural basketball competition - our team won enough games (probably one) to scape into the playoffs by the thinnest of margins . Then amazingly we jelled. We ended up in the finals against a squad stacked with lads off the school rep team. In their eyes we were diced meat - we thought differently. So much so that we threw a smothering defence on the lads and won 13-2 and I even managed to score one of the baskets. They were sorely crushed to say the least. Which only goes to show - and it was a good lesson for them to learn - never count your chooks until they are on the barbie - (something the Boonah vixen got some shock therapy on as well) - hard work, commitment, kindeness and attitude can sometimes bring unimagined success - and so it is with this little lad . We need to support him so he can forge these same ingredients and win the day and his future.
It is doable and failure is not in my vocabulary. If you need help ask - many are willing and able to respond. I have contacts in Rotary Clubs in the Sydney area too that can marshall some support for your friend if needed.

The Boonah vixen once remarked that I constantly surprised her - the jihad continues - her gnarly outback upbringing, too much time teaching in private religious schools and
a surprising level of starch can only be addressed by more intensive applications of kindness, humor and respect. In the meantime, we need to get this lad right - and we will be there when he needs us. No retreat, no surrender to bad luck. If you get a pic when he opens up the boxes that would be really good to see his smiles and reaction. This little rippa will see better days ahead. He is going to give the bug a thrashing like it has never seen!!!

Cheers from Up Over - The Keeper
