"Why do you even bother having lead climbing in the gym, apart from as part of structured courses? Does it get you extra business? It doesn't seem so to me. The gym was regularly crowded when it was only top-roping.
Is it worth the bother?"
I think so. There are some people using it as practice for competitions. I understand in Europe alot of gyms don't have top rope. For those people like the Youth team going over to Austria in August they need to practice steep lead.
Secondly its fun!
Thirdly trying to reclip the roof on top rope would be almost impossible.
