Sounds like someone gave you some penalty slack! ;)
The device does not encourage you to use more slack than you would with another device. Its is simply better to have some slack in any belay system than to have a tight line the whole time. Longer fall = less force on the piece due to there being more rope out. How much slack and in what situation is always going to be a judgement call tho. |
