Working at this no slow-goes and gri-gri using gym for approx 5 years.... The worst I've seen is the climber and belayer getting a bit of a fright from being let down too quickly initially. Using slow goes has the same effect as using gri-gri's i personally think. Climbing one day at an ATC using + Slow-Goes I witnessed many times newbie belayers letting of the break end, and when I asked one why, the response I got was "I don't have to hold on ya know, I know what I'm doin!" This sort of response is what I get from both newbie belayers and experienced belayers when using a Gri-Gri...
Using a slow go AND a gri gri wouldn't work as previously mentioned there would be too much friction being produced and the climber would literally be stuck at the top. Imagine all the screaming birthday party kids!!
