Memorial Gathering for Karen McNeill - Alpinist 15-Jun-2006 At 11:11:30 AM The Keeper

I have altered my travel plans to Ottawa next week and will stop in Canmore to take in this memorial. I think it appropriate that the small climbing community in the Yukon be represented and the paying of respects seems like an important thing to do as far as this special lady from the Antipodes is concerned. I won't know many of this crowd but I do know a few of the Canmore aces through a number of climbing escapades with Yamnuska - besides this lad is not known for shying away from engaging folks!!! Might even stumble across a vagrant Aussie or two OD-ing on dreams of WI5 - and one could always have some fun with that!!! The Canmore Kiwis will out in force and this should all go down very well. We claim this Kiwi lass as ours and will let her know how important she is to us! I will see about getting some pics and will file a report later on - hopefully giving a sense of this special time - it is going to be packed to the rafters and a tear jerker but also with some scandalously funny stories of Karen and her shoe collections , wild clothes and life force. How could any crazy Canuck miss such a event - the annual Mountain Guides Ball will stand in poor reflection to this little undertaking. Karen's family will feel like they are right at home - we will take good care of them.
