Sorry Josh, your original thread intent has been lost. As far as your question goes, I think it's too specific. Given that your point was to highlight access issues, then I reckon most people would interpret your shot as 'staged' (ie, you didn't really break into the area, you posed for a shot). Of course it's a dicey issue - no more or less than say publishing routes/problems from a forbiden location.

As far as modifying images goes, it's another tool. There's no such thing as an acurate photographic representation of anything.
Using digital manipulation is no better or worse than using a flash gun, different lenses,filters or techniques to generate the image you're after. It can well be argued that playing about with particular techniques can better convey what is seen by an observer than a 'straight' photograph.
