An oldie but "Third Man on the Mountain" (1959) (Was this the first climbing feature film ever made?) Has some very impressive climbing sequences in it which are obviously not the result of clever special effects. Pretty sure it was set on the Matterhorn and features quite a bit of climbing (as opposed to mountaineering) in very exposed positions in hobnail boots either free solo or with the occasional hemp rope. Very corny 50's story but really worth a look for the historical climbing value. |
