A few years ago I was climbing at Gibraltar (ACT) and I was called aside by a ranger. He wanted to know if I was in a climbing club. Well, no, I said, there isn't one really, people just come out here and climb; what's the problem anyway? Well, he said, there are tourists here, who come for the walk, and the wildlife, and the views, and some of them are not happy ...

Is it the litter? I asked. Well, no, he said, not the litter.
Is it the chalk marks on the rocks? I asked. Well, no, he said, not the chalk marks.
Is it the bolts and chains? I asked. Well, no, he said, its not the bolts and chains.
Well what the hell is it that's making the tourists unhappy about climbers? I asked.
He looked embarrassed. Then he said:

It's the bad language they use.
