I'm not sure, but I think the anti-olympic stance is due to wanting our activities to stay "under the radar".
Of course these activities are already known of by general public but its important to take a step back and ask will the sport/pastime/lifestyle really benefit in the long run from massive exposure and possibly being parasited by marketing/corporate types?

Activities which require the building of special facilities etc can really benefit from an increase in popularity (swimming pools, velodromes, gymnasiums, skating rink) as a critical mass is required to have these facilities provided. Activities which rely on sometimes limited natural resourses can, in the long run, end up buggered. The injuries caused (resource damage, government controls etc) can remain long after the hype and money makers have moved on.
