I looked into this a few months ago when I bought my laptop. At the time the only service provider with rural coverage was Telstra using the CDMA network. www.maxon.com.au gives some info on the modem. It was a bit expensive for my needs ($49/month with a 300 MB/month limit). Alternatively I have made a comparison of the iBurst service providers, which give high speed wireless access but only in major metropolitan areas. These cost about the same but give much greater download capacity. If you want a look at this, I can email it to you.
