Some very strict vegans take the view that both honey and beer are off the menu:
honey is an animal by-product as it uses bees as an intrinsic part of the process
beer relies on the action of yeast, so it too is an animal by product.

I can only assume mead (fermented honey) is totally forbidden.

Mind you, if your life has come to the point of prioritising the welfare of yeast over the crisp malty goodness of a fine pale ale, then you really need to get out more.
