Of course, there are times where putting even a metre's extra slack into the fall could have some rather messy consequences. I've had one fall off Glory Rodent at Araps that could well have been broken ankles with a belayer jumping up to greet me. As it was, it was still bruised heels.

My most spectacular inadvertant dynamic belay was to a friend on Death Row. He had a brain fart on the slab way above the sentry box and came screaming off. I ended up *in* the sentry box, having stripped a few pieces of gear out on my way up. He was about 30 kgs heavier than me, I think. Even he laughs about it now.

Provided you're not going to hit anything, a competant belayer with a dynamic belay is going to leave you a lot fresher after a day's falling off sport routes.
