I've now lived both in sydney and melbourne for 4 years apiece. Sydney definitely wins it hands down if youre into quick, easy access and good weather - there's never really an off season due to the range in climate between the blueies, nowra etc. However, it does take a little while to get used to the idea of climbing on what they call "rock" north of the border, but if you're used to climbing at the moon then it probably won't be too much of a transition. Also, the ease of access, and lack of central meeting points if you're not into simply clipping bolts makes the community in these parts a bit less coherent.
