Hi guys,

I got handed the responsibility for the AV in Brisbane about a week before the comp.

Adam had gotten a quote for live feeds from 3 camera's being mixed live which came to about $15K. This was clearly beyond the bounds of what was affordable so we made do with 3 borrowed domestic cameras (of varying quality) mixed through a very cheap AV switcher.

With some help from Phil and other enthusiastic by standers I think we got a reasonable result given the equipment we had.

I agree that it would be great to get more exposure for the sport via some TV coverage. My suggestion would be that we beg, borrow or steal 3 good quality, 3CCD, DV cameras which we use on the day to do a basic live mix. At the same time we invest in a heap of tape and we record everything.

After the event we go through the tape and using pretty much any home computer these days, we do a rough edit of highlights of the comp which goes for 45 minutes. Armed with that rough edit we take the tapes and an Edit Decision List into a post production studio and do a final edit on some pro gear.

Having done that we professionally duplicate it to DVD and sell it though gyms, outdoor stoors, climbing websites, etc. We also take the program to one of the networks with an interest in niche sports (SBS maybe) and offer them the rights to screen the program once for free. That initial screening will hopefully generate enough interest to license further screenings at a reasonable cost and to provide some income to do the same thing next year even better.

I don't think this is beyond the realms of possibility. It just needs a few people with the vision, time and the correct skillset to pull it off. If it were to happen, then now is definately the time to start talking about it.

Nick...
