In case you haven't noticed, most climbers are weirdos - but 99% of them are harmless.
I think most people are weirdos....I'm yet to meet someone who's 100% "normal".

I'd let a stranger belay me - but I prefer to climb with my partner as he knows how much slack I like, when to take in, when to encourage me, and when to be quiet (usually when I growl at him).

I love meeting new people when travelling. It always amazes me how friendly and helpful strangers can be - from giving you directions when you're lost in a foreign country to covering up scratches on your rental car in NZ.
