Without having a winge, it's an interesting phenomenon regarding clipping indoors. Of my four routes in the Open A Men, I topped two, and fell quite low down on the other two due to clipping issues (whether it was getting into a position to clip, or misreading where to clip from because the clip was so off route). I don't blame anyone but myself for these errors. But it does highlight something that an outdoors climber like me should learn. Clipping indoors is nothing like clipping outdoors. In most cases on real rock bolts are placed to make clipping as easy as possible (i.e. clip from a decent hold or stance). Not so indoors. The bolts are in permanent locations and we make do. This can lead to pretty desperate clipping situations. My feeling is that the actual moves of the route should provide the difficulty, not the clipping. This makes it hard for the route-setter though because you can't just put a jug next to every clip, obviously. My hat goes off to the route setters though, it must be really tough work.
