G'day Folks, i was up at the Cathedrals on the weekend and my mate and i were climbing Jerrypot (G12, 140m) when it became apparent that neither of us could talk to each other due to the high winds that had snuck upon us. We were half way up the climb and struggling to understand what each other were trying to do or say for that matter. This made life a tad difficult and a quick fix was required to help us over come this problem

The problem was quickly fixed via an emergency stop, a hanging belay and my partner climbing up to me. We then resumed climbing and headed for the top. My return descent was spent pondering this problem and what exactly was standard amongst the climbing community when it came to non verbal climbing calls etc.

Is their an australian / international standard operating procedure or do i just shout harder and hope for the best. My mate said that there is an existing policy of tugs on the rope but i can find no evidence of this or anything else forthat matter.

what is the general consensus on this problem and what do other people do in the circumstances.

yours wonderingly,

JT
