Did the same thing in January, heard a loud poping crunch type noise in the right ring finger. Was try to grab some quite small holds on Paddington at Centenial Glen. I took a couple of weeks of then tried to get into a bit of easier trad climbing, this only served to keep reinjuring the finger, as every time I went climbing I would warm up feel good any then reinjure the finger.

Evenually I took four weeks off then taped it heavily (about 6+ turns), started back gently staying off crimpers and doing weights regularily instead of climbing. I have just started climbing without tape and the soreness at the base of the finger has almost completely disappeared (unless you squeeze really hard!).

Probably not an ideal recovery plan but that was my experience.

PS. There was a really good magazine article on his exactly in OTE about a year ago.
