I have been searching for semi passive tricams for some time now. I asked the guys in Bogong and they knew what I was talking about but didn't have any so they sent me down to Paddy Pallin's. The guy in Paddy's just looked at me funny and thought I was making things up. I eventually found them through Rock Hardware, the kind sponsors of this website.

My question is, why aren't they common in Victoria? I used them in California where they are fairly common, on a climb that was otherwise unprotectable for the first 5m. The slightly flaring, uneven nature of the crack prevented good placement of a SLCD. They seem to me to be light and versatile. A handy addition to a rack.

Apparently they were popular with the older generation of climbers in Vic but they have gone out of fasion.

Have any local climbers used them? And what do you think of them?
