You'll find it spelt Railey or Railay, Ao nang is the shorter/cheaper Longtail (local water taxi) ride, but there's an airport in Krabi, so it may be easier to get there from Krabi
There's also an airport in Phuket, a cab/bus ride to the other side of the island and the trip across the bay is great, then jump into a longtail at either Ao Nang or Ton Sai or continue through to Krabi.
Ao Nang is an option for accom and other activities but if you're hard core you may want to stay at Ton Sai or Railay where the climbing is at!
If you want some easier grades (and more of them) try Ko Phi Phi (an island and can be dearer than Railay)
In either place shop around for accom/clothes/food away from the obvious tourist areas. You can negotiate the price on everything except food!
OR
You can head up to Chiang Mai, there's granite climbing aplenty and my favourite place in the world, The Thai Elephant Conservation Centre, do a 3 day home stay and live there and get your amateur Mahout Licence, mine's been very handy! :o) |
